Pearce provides update on Liverpool’s summer business

The Athletic’s James Pearce has provided a key update on Liverpool’s summer transfer business.

The Reds have been expecting a potentially busy summer, with individuals leaving and new faces coming in as well.

The likes of Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho are among those linked with moves to join the club, while players such as Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri could leave.

Pearce claims that Liverpool’s transfer business has completely halted, however, due to the current issues surrounding the virus-related illness.

Liverpool’s discussions with agents and rival clubs regarding their summer transfer plans are currently on hold.

Sporting director Michael Edwards, head of recruitment Dave Fallows and chief scout Barry Hunter are continuing to consider various options in consultation with Klopp.

While far from an ideal update, football doesn’t take precedence during these difficult times.

The hope is that business will be conducted normally sooner rather than later, or that the summer transfer window could be extended to give every club the best chance possible to strengthen their squads.

I still expect Liverpool to bring in new names in the coming months, although patience is going to be required. The worst case scenario is that potential signings end up joining much later down the line instead, but Jurgen Klopp has a squad that can complete on all fronts, regardless.
