Possible boost for Liverpool as Wijnaldum pictured crouching after win

Liverpool have been handed a possible fitness boost ahead of their clash with Leicester in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Gini Wijnaldum missed the Club World Cup final with a muscle injury, leaving him as a doubt to face the Foxes after Christmas.

However, he was seen crouching during the celebrations of Liverpool’s win over Flamengo, which suggests that the injury is not as bad as first feared.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

If Wijnaldum is fit for the game against Leicester, it will be a huge boost for Liverpool. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also suffering an injury against Flamengo, it will be crucial that Wijnaldum is able to slot back into the midfield.

The Dutchman has been sensational for Liverpool in recent seasons and has been a key part of their incredible Premier League form. His ability to drive forward with the ball from midfield and consistently retain possession under pressure helps Liverpool offensively and defensively.

Leicester’s midfield is excellent, with Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison, which means that Liverpool will need to have their best midfield three to combat it. Of course, Fabinho is out, but Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Wijnaldum are more than capable of getting the job done for the Reds.
