For the fans who don’t get to make their way to Anfield for the competitive competition, pre-season is a wonderful opportunity to see their beloved Liverpool Football Club live in action.
Many football followers believe Liverpool are not what they once were due to the lack of league trophies in recent years, but that certainly has not stopped people following this wonderful club back here in Australia.
Two years ago we saw the mighty Melbourne Cricket Ground filled with 95,000 supporters. That night gave people the opportunity abroad to see how big Liverpool are in Australia.
You only have to compare it to the here and now. Manchester City are currently playing in the Champions Cup against the likes of AS Roma and Real Madrid.
With the competition taking place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground we get to see if the likes of Manchester City can fill the Melbourne Cricket Ground as Liverpool did just over two years ago.
With the competition underway, Manchester City faced AS Roma and only managed to get just over 41,000. For me, that says it all really. Also don’t forget that Real Madrid faced AS Roma earlier and managed to just get over 80,000. Both matches shy of what Liverpool managed to bring in not so long ago.
Raheem Sterling got his move to Manchester City, but anyone who tries to argue that he has got a move to a bigger club is certainly kidding themselves.
Seeing a split image of the Melbourne Cricket Ground of when Liverpool visited two years ago and when Manchester City faced AS Roma the other night, it certainly makes you wonder what motives footballers have in the modern day.

Perhaps I am only looking at it from one direction, but I would want to play for a club that has the most supporters and the most passionate supporters. Obviously Sterling did not see it that way.
When Liverpool landed in Brisbane and Adelaide it was the beginning of what was going to be a week not to forget.
Having the opportunity to travel to Adelaide to see the mighty Reds in action was something I will never forget.
From the open training session at Coopers Stadium to the magnificent Adelaide Oval for the much anticipated match against Adelaide United, both the supporters and players were treated to something special.
For the new boys such as Danny Ings and Joe Gomez, I could imagine it would have been quite a shock early on just how big the club is. It certainly has not affected their performances though.
Just walking down the streets of Adelaide you could see nothing but the colour red.
Whether it was supporters crowding out the front of the players hotel, people chanting and singing in pubs or people lining up to meet the likes of Robbie Fowler, the supporters in Australia showed the world just how much this club means to them.
The opportunity to see these players live was something you simply could not miss. Watching them through the television every week is our only way. With that being the case, it really is that little bit more special seeing them in our country.
I suppose the most satisfying part of the tour to Australia was how much the players enjoyed it. Whether it was Brisbane or Adelaide, you could see the excitement that went through them when they saw the numbers waiting out the front of their hotel, at the open training sessions and at the matches.
With the tour of Australia done and dusted, it leaves the players in a positive mindset going into the new campaign.
There would be no better feeling knowing that you have this kind of support here in Australia and other nations heading into the new season.
As an Australian Red, I thank you Liverpool Football Club for visiting our wonderful country and providing us with fantastic entertainment.
We may not be winning the trophies as freely as we use to, but we are still arguably the biggest club in the world.
