Liverpool are set to battle with Arsenal for the signature of Portugal Under-21 international, William Carvalho, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been injured for the start of the season but is expected to return to action soon and the Italian outlet report that the two English clubs will look to sign him up in the January window.
He won’t come cheap, though, with an expected £25m fee being demanded by the Portuguese club.
Liverpool haven’t got an abundance of defensive midfielders, and with the future of Lucas Leiva (the club’s only natural one) still in the balance, Carvalho may well be someone that Brendan Rodgers could make use of.
The Reds have leaked goals in their last three games and if Tuttomercatoweb are to be believed, someone of Carvalho’s ilk is being looked at to solidify the side.
The Under-21 international has recently shone for his country in their European Championship campaign and these reports now claim that he has attracted the attention of a couple of English giants.
