Scotland fans tear into Robertson for performance in Russia defeat

Plenty of angry Scotland fans have taken to social media to aim their criticism at captain Andy Robertson following his poor display in tonight’s 2-1 defeat to Russia at Hampden.

John McGinn gave the hosts the perfect start with his first international goal, but Artem Dzyuba’s strike and Andrew O’Donnell’s own-goal dealt a major blow to Scotland’s EURO 2020 qualification hopes.

It was certainly a match to put behind him, but these Scots have placed Robertson right in the middle of their crosshairs…

There was even the odd Everton fan piping up here and there in support of their in-form left-back Luca Digne…

It certainly wasn’t one of Robertson’s finer performances at Hampden.

He failed to win the ball once in the final third and was arguably at fault for Dzyuba’s equaliser, as well as beaten in all three of his ground duels and two of his three in the air.

The 25-year-old also lost possession 26 times and failed to meet a team-mate with any of his five crosses. It was an all-round disappointing night for Scotland, and he’ll no doubt bear the responsibility on his shoulders.

Calls of him being overrated are fairly far-fetched though, and can only be put down to reactionary fans venting their frustration. He’s, without a doubt, Scotland’s star man and is deserving of the captaincy.

It was a game to forget though, but that will only push him to impress against Belgium in Steve Clarke’s side’s next outing against the world’s best, Belgium.
