Xherdan Shaqiri has revealed why he is so happy to be working under Jugren Klopp at Liverpool this season.
The Swiss midfielder joined Liverpool this Summer from Stoke City, and has already found is feet at the Reds.
Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, Shaqiri admitted that the German’s character is why he is such a good coach, and why he has settled at the Reds so fast.
He’s a very good coach, but for me the character he has is also important. He has a very nice character, you can joke with him, but of course, you have to be focused on the pitch and give everything.
You can see the relationship he has with the players all the time, he’s very friendly in speaking with them, and that was important for me in coming here and working with him.
I knew him from Germany when I was at Bayern and he was manager of Dortmund. He wanted me to come to Liverpool and I wanted to work with him so I am very happy to reunite with him.
Shaqiri was relegated with Stoke last season, as the Potters struggled under Mark Hughes. However, since switching, to Liverpool, the midfielder now knows that trophies are expected at Anfield.
The aim is for the club to win something – that has to be the goal of our team.
We have to take every game and try to win it, then close out from your mind the last game you won and think: ‘OK, we go forward now and look to the next game.’ It is like this that you win titles and I hope we are going to do that this year.
