Southampton enter the race to sign Lallana as they eye up reunion

Southampton are keen on bringing Adam Lallana back to the club this summer, according to the Express.

The midfielder will leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Lallana has been linked with a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham, while Leicester City have been seen as front-runners to sign him.

Saints have now reportedly entered the race, too, as they eye up a reunion with their former captain.

Lallana’s Liverpool exit makes perfect sense this summer, but he can be a good signing for another team.

Injuries and a lack of substance have put paid to the 31-year-old’s Reds; career – he has only registered one goal and assist apiece since May 2017 – and he is arguably the Reds’ seventh-best midfielder now, behind Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

A return to Southampton makes sense, certainly on an emotional level, and he would add quality to their midfield. While not quite the player he once was, he is still very good with the ball (83.4 per cent pass completion rate in the Premier League this season) and hard working, both of which could appeal to Ralph Hasenhuttl.

It remains to be seen where Lallana will end up, but the fact that he has several suitors is proof that he still has plenty of worth.
