After they dispatched of Paris Saint Germain 2-1 on Tuesday evening, Liverpool are being backed by the Spanish press to go the distance in the Champions League this season.
Marca have listed out ten reasons as to how the Reds could go all the way in Europe’s premier competition this year, with Jurgen Klopp’s side looking to avenge their final defeat to Real Madrid last season.
Marca believe that it could be Liverpool’s year for the following ten reasons:
- Dominant attack
The Reds have one of the best attacks in England and in Europe with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
2. Scoring potential
Liverpool have scored the most goals out of anyone in the Champions League since the beginning of last season.

3. A team in Klopp’s image
The German has been ruthless in his overhaul of the squad, with James Milner the only starter remaining from the Brendan Rodgers era.

4. Defensive strength
Virgil Van Dijk’s arrival last season helped make Liverpool’s defence strong. Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold have also done very well, and have made the Liverpool side a defensive powerhouse.
5. Finally a reliable keeper
Alisson has helped Liverpool finally look solid defensively. After years of uncertainty, Liverpool finally have a world-class goalkeeper.
6. ‘Gegenpressing’ works with the midfield
The Liverpool midfield is able to execute Klopp’s ‘Gegenpressing’ tactics well.
7. Strength in depth
Liverpool have a good strength in depth, something showed when Daniel Sturridge scored against PSG on Tuesday.

8. Klopp’s record in knockout competitions
Despite never winning a European trophy, Klopp has a good record of going to finals. He took Dortmund to the German Cup and Champions League finals, whilst taking the Reds to the Europa League and Champions League finals.
9. Anfield is a fortress
Liverpool have very much made Anfield their fortress. No Premier League team has scored at the famous stadium since March last season.
10. Five time champion

No other English team has a pedigree quite like Liverpool’s in the Champions League. The five-time winners are the most successful English side on the continent, despite no league win since 1990.
For all these reasons, the Spanish press are tipping the Reds for European Glory. Could Klopp’s side go all the way this season?
