Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of putting in a surprise bid for out-of-favour Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert.
Despite recent links to West Brom, The Times are reporting that Lambert is in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino, who of course managed the 33-year old during his time at Southampton.
Although he only managed two league goals last season in his 25 appearances, Spurs are keen to bring in a suitable backup for Harry Kane, and they have earmarked Lambert as the man for the job.
He would not be the answer to Tottenham’s attacking prayers, but with Emmanuel Adebayor seemingly headed to Villa Park to link up with Tim Sherwood and Roberto Soldado still not scoring as frequently as they originally hoped, the former Bristol Rovers man could certainly fill a void.
With the additions of Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Christian Benteke in the past two months, Lambert appears to be surplus to requirements at Anfield.
The life-long Liverpool fan joined the Reds last season for £4m but never really set the ground running. It’s been clear for a while that Lambert’s future will be played out elsewhere.
The Times report that the striker has held talks with West Bromwich Albion, but with this latest news, it looks as if Spurs are ready to throw a spanner into the works.
