Teenage goalkeeper Shamal George close to completing loan move

Liverpool goalkeeper Shamal George has begun training with Swiss side St.Gallen ahead of a loan move to the club, according to a report on Tagblatt.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper featured once in the Premier League 2 for the Under-23 side this season, before completing a loan move to Northern Premier League side Marine.

As stated in the report, St.Gallen are currently enduring a goalkeeper crisis and as reported on Sport Witness, could lose Dejan Stojanovic to Middlesbrough, meaning George is their primary target and he has already commenced training with the squad.

Club chief Alain Sutter said:

If we weren’t really interested in Shamal, we wouldn’t have brought him here to La Manga.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

This is a move that seems to make sense for all parties. George has been highly-rated ever since he was used as an outfield player against Huddersfield during a pre-season match in 2016.

In the same year, the young goalkeeper was tipped to become ‘one of the best in the country and I feel this move could help him gain some confidence due to playing more regularly.

Although playing in the Northern Premier League is better than nothing, this is a chance for him to play in the Swiss Super League.

The youngster could do with the experience of being a first-choice goalkeeper because naturally,  the more minutes that he plays, the more he will learn about the position. It will also provide Jurgen Klopp with a chance to see what he’s really made of.
