The draw for the group stages of the Champions League will take place at 5pm this afternoon, as 32 sides learn who they’ll be facing in the most prestigious competition in club football.
Amongst the 32 sides in the draw are four Premier League teams. Manchester City will be in Pot 1, Manchester United and Tottenham will be in Pot 2 and Liverpool, last year’s runners-up, will be in Pot 3.
Ahead of the draw later today, we’ve taken a look at what we think are the easiest and toughest possible groups that Liverpool could be drawn into:
Easiest Group
Lokomotiv Moscow are the team the Reds will most fancy facing from Pot 1. Benfica have a history of doing well against Liverpool in Europe but Jurgen Klopp would fancy getting past them comfortably, whilst AEK Athens are the lowest ranked side in the competition.
Toughest Group
I think Liverpool would least like to face Atletico Madrid as they would not make the game open like the other sides in Pot 1 would. Lyon, with Nabil Fekir – the man who almost became a Liverpool player – and Inter Milan round up the potentially most difficult group for the Reds.
