Twitter reacts: Jose Enrique

Jose Enrique has made some interesting comments this morning surrounding his future at Liverpool and his relationship with Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds left-back claims he’ll be staying put at the club despite his issues with the manager.

In the squad here we only have one pure left back (Alberto Moreno) and I know that if I stay I’ll play.

Scary words from Enrique, who has seemingly been doing very little to re-earn his place in the side.

Here’s some tweets with some thoughts on the situation…

Some interesting comments there, it must be said.

Whilst the overriding feeling is that Jose is staying to soak up the Anfield atmosphere and earn plenty of cash, he does mention he wants to stay and fight for a place – a line we’ve heard somewhere else previously, mind.

He does forget to mention Joe Gomez, though, who is – currently – keeping Moreno out of the side as well.

When an 18-year-old is blocking your playing time, and you’re banned from the pre-season tour, it’s fairly clear time is just about time.

I’ve always been a firm believer that footballers are footballers because they have some desire to play football. If Enrique is serious about staying at the club for another season, and then eventually leaving on a free next summer, he doesn’t appear to have any of that aforementioned desire.

He’s earned good money up to now (he’s definitely not short of a few quid) – he should go and play out the rest of his career at somewhere like Watford before age and arthritis creep up on him. Or maybe Dubai, he likes it there.

Thanks for the memories, Jose.

Well, the memory. Wasn’t even his really, was it? Ah well. Cheers, Luis.
