The report certainly suggests that Maguire’s £80m move had a positive impact on Van Dijk’s deal, with the defender benefiting financially as a result of it.

The 28-year-old has reportedly been given a wage hike of close to £75,000, with his previous deal of £125,000 a week rising to a weekly wage of a number closer to £200,000.

And not only has Maguire’s move seemingly benefitted Van Dijk, but Liverpool themselves have been given a boost by the transfer, with one of their key men now tied down to a new six-year deal at Anfield.
