Van Persie claims Mane is “a joy to watch” after Liverpool beat Ajax

Robin van Persie has hailed Liverpool star Sadio Mane, claiming he is “a joy to watch” as a player.

The Reds won 1-0 away to Ajax on Wednesday evening, getting their Champions League campaign off to an ideal start.

Mane was involved in the only goal of the game, turning brilliantly and shooting, with the ball eventually being diverted into his own net by Nicolas Tagliafico.

The Senegalese was an attacking menace prior to being substituted in the second half and someone who was hugely impressed was former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Van Persie.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, with quotes provided by The Boot Room, the Dutchman couldn’t speak highly enough of the Liverpool forward:

For me, in the first hour, it was a joy to watch Mane.

His movement, how he holds up the ball, his link up play. I would pay to watch him. He’s a fantastic player to watch.

On current form, I wouldn’t swap Mane for any other left-sided player in world football.

He may not possess the social media presence, or all-round global level of fame, as someone like Neymar or Eden Hazard, but he is a world-class footballer who produces consistently in the final third.

Mane already has four goals in as many Premier League games to his name this season, while his tally of 85 goals and 28 assists in 176 Liverpool appearances says all you need to know about his world-class brilliance.

The 28-year-old is also a superb team player, working his socks off for the cause and getting the best out of those around him.

I think Mane is Liverpool’s best left-sided player since John Barnes, which speaks volumes about his brilliance.
