Warnock calls Liverpool a “disgrace” over “promised” Clyne deal

Cardiff City boss has called Liverpool a “disgrace” after he claims he was promised that the Bluebirds would sign Nathaniel Clyne on loan from the Reds.

Speaking after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by Gillingham, Warnock said that he had been promised the player by Liverpool, with Clyne now joining Bournemouth on loan for the rest of the season.

Clyne follows Dominic Solanke, who joined Bournemouth in a deal worth over £19 million on Friday.

Warnock told TalkSPORT, via the Independent:

I’m disappointed with Nathaniel Clyne and Liverpool.

To see on TV he’s gone to Bournemouth when I’ve been promised he’s my player is for me a disgrace and a lack of class.

Having known the player and given him his debut, I’m disappointed not just with the boy himself but with Liverpool as well for not ringing me.

The reason I’m disappointed with Nathaniel and Liverpool is that I’ve out on three players because of that by waiting.

I lost out on a couple of full backs and a striker, so I’m doubly disappointed.

I probably should have been illegally tapping him, but I’ve done everything right and then Bournemouth come in and I suppose Bournemouth paying £19million for (Dominic) Solanke probably whetted their appetite a little bit.

Cardiff were a victim of giant-killing on Saturday, with League One Gillingham shocking the Bluebirds to win 1-0 at the Priestfield Stadium.
