“We’re gonna win the league” – A reality rather than a dream

“And now you’re gonna believe us, we’re gonna win the league.”

This was the song the Kop had dared to sing, having held their breath on it for a very long time.

Nobody jumped to the conclusion for the entirety of last season, as Liverpool went neck-and-neck with Manchester City, but after 64 points from a possible 66 this season, a Mohamed Salah strike against Manchester United finally gave Anfield the perfect place to make the statement.

What a moment it was.

Sixteen points ahead of City with a game in hand – even the most pessimistic of Reds supporters must be starting to think this is more a reality than a dream.

Throughout the 30-year wait for league glory, that song hasn’t been sung by the Kop with so much confidence and relief.

It felt like a fitting time to sing it, too – at Anfield, against your greatest rivals. All four sides of the stadium believed.

The 2013/14 Premier League title race was a dream and came out of nowhere, but this time it is very much a reality.

It is a reality among the nation that the champions of the world are now on their way to being the champions of England, which means more than anything.

The celebration from Salah, followed by Alisson meeting him at the Kop end first, while Jordan Henderson fell flat on his face in relief and enormity. What a side.

This team has given everything to the cause and will continue to do so under Jurgen Klopp. It is the perfect jigsaw that has been built over a number of sustainable years.

It is seeking domination and has achieved it all around the world. There’s just one more to pick up. Ten more wins and they are champions.

“And now you’re gonna believe us”…
