Just a few weeks ago, the mood around the Liverpool fanbase was pretty sour. It was clear that Brendan Rodgers was on borrowed time and a poor run of results had everyone feeling blue.
However, the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as the club’s new manager has everybody excited again. Suddenly expectations have risen and there’s a mood of optimism in the air.
Since Klopp’s appointment, betting exchanges have seen odds on a top four Liverpool finish shorten according to My Betting Sites. Previously it was trading at a peak of 5.50, but now odds are just 3.25. This shows confidence from punters that Liverpool will now have a surge of from.
But can we really expect a top four finish? It’s difficult to say. The Premier League has been very strange this season – no side has really looked head and shoulders above the rest.
The traditional ‘top’ teams have all been indifferent, and that’s great news for Liverpool. The Reds currently sit in 10th-place, but such is the nature of the league table, they’re just three points behind Crystal Palace in fourth, and only six points behind Man City in first!

In years gone by, this gap would probably be larger, especially to first-place, which makes FSG’s decision to make a move a good one. They’ve acted quickly, and Liverpool are still right in contention for Champions League football.
Had they waited too much longer, the likelihood is they’d probably have been cut adrift.
It’s still early to say exactly what we can expect from Klopp’s Liverpool – they’ve yet to even play a game! However, the mood of optimism around the fanbase shows that the supporters are already more hopeful than they were just over a week ago.
Champions League football under Rodgers was beginning to look like a pipedream. With Klopp, it could easily become a reality.
