Championship clubs lead race for Luis Alberto

Aston Villa are among three Championship clubs interested in signing Luis Alberto, reports the Liverpool Echo

The young midfielder has been told by Jurgen Klopp that he can leave the club after failing to force his way into the German’s first-team plans.

Sevilla were expected to seal a deal for Alberto, who left the Spanish club for £6.5m back in 2013, but they have pulled out of the deal.

And now it seems as if the Villains are leading the race for the 23-year-old, with QPR and Wolves also reportedly interested.

Alberto made just nine league appearances in his debut season at Anfield, prior to sealing loan moves away from the club in a bid to get first-team football.

He spent the 14/15 season at Malaga, scoring twice in 15 matches, before a spell at Deportivo La Coruna during the 15/16 campaign in which he made 29 appearances and scored six goals.

But despite a healthy goals return at Estadio Riazor last term, the Spaniard has been told that he can leave the club having failed to impress Klopp in pre-season training at Melwood last month.

With so many attacking players on offer to the Reds boss this season, it is perhaps no surprise that Alberto’s time at Anfield is coming to an end, with a move away from the club seemingly the best conclusion for both parties involves.
