Crystal Palace make £25m bid for Benteke

Crystal Palace have made a £25m bid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to Sky Sports.

The Belgian has been linked to a move away from Anfield all summer after falling down the club’s pecking order under Jurgen Klopp and the German is reportedly willing to sell.

But it is thought that Liverpool want closer to the £35m fee that they paid Aston Villa for his services just twelve months ago.

The Reds may yet be willing to cut their losses and accept a lower bid though, which would recoup much of the £30m that was spent on new signing Saido Mane earlier this week.

It is thought that Palace were close to sealing a move for Benteke’s national team mate Michy Batshuayi, but Chelsea have swooped at the last minute, meaning Alan Pardew is left to look at other options.

And it seems as if he thinks Benteke may fit the profile of his new number nine, despite a year that saw him score just ten goals in 41 appearances at Anfield.

Benteke is currently at the European Championships, where he is yet to start a game for Belgium, and so the club will have some time to mull over the Eagles’ offer.

But is likely that a deal will be agreed for Benteke sooner or later, after many fans feared that the club would be forced into accepting a heavy loss on the attacker as a result of his poor form.
