Adding another pacey winger to the squad is one of Jurgen Klopp’s top priorities this summer and he’s lining up a couple of options should primary targets fail to be secured.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have ‘real’ interest in signing Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa this summer if a deal to sign Roma star Mohamed Salah falls through.
The Egyptian’s proposed £35m transfer is believed to have stalled for one reason or another and Klopp is scrambling together a list of alternatives that includes Costa and Sporting standout Gelson Martins.
Bild stated that Bayern would be willing to sell the Brazilian for €40m (£34.8m) this summer after an inconsistent season under Carlo Ancelotti where he started just 14 Bundesliga games all campaign.
The 26-year-old Brazilian has reiterated his desire to play regular football next season and will pursue a transfer in order to do so.
If Liverpool are unable to finalise a move for Salah, expect them to go hard to land Costa, providing he isn’t already off the market, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Juventus and PSG have all been credited with interest in signing him.
