Liverpool-target Gotze warned he’s not first-choice at Bayern

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Mario Gotze won’t be first choice at the club next season, despite committing his future to the team this week, reports the Echo.

The Germany international looked set to leave the Bundesliga for Liverpool this summer and reunite with former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp.

Then after the Reds’ Europa League Final defeat cost the side Champions League football for the coming season, Gotze committed his future to Bayern.

But Rummenigge has now came out and hinted to German magazine Kicker that the player could be set for another season on the sidelines if he stays at the club.

He said:

I had talks with him (Mario) and Ancelotti. Mario knows the thoughts of Bayern. Everything was clearly and seriously explained to Mario. He knows what the club thinks and what the new coach thinks. Mario has to evaluate for himself whether he wants to play constantly.

The news will be of concern to Gotze, who suffered a miserable time of things at the Allianz Arena last year despite winning multiple trophies.

Many of the 23-year-old’s appearances came as a substitute, leading to speculation that he would return to Dortmund or reunite with Klopp at Anfield in a pursuit of regular football.

Rummenigge’s latest admissions may mean that a move to Anfield could yet be the outcome in what is sure to be one of the summer’s more fascinating transfer sagas.
