Gomez edging closer to injury return

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez says he is getting closer to a return from injury, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The youngster has been sidelined since October, after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury whilst on international duty for England U21s.

After signing from Charlton last summer, Gomez enjoyed a good start to the season under previous boss Brendan Rodgers, but is yet to play under current boss Jurgen Klopp.

But it seems as if the 19-year-old is edging closer to a return from his horrific injury, after he posted a video with a caption to his Instagram account.

Back in November, Gomez spoke of his heartbreak after learning the extent of his injury.

He said, “It’s been a difficult time but i’m trying to stay positive. I’m listening to what all the medical staff are saying.

“I know it will be next season before I play again. The danger when you do your ACL is that you rush back and end up breaking down again.”

Last month, Gomez took part in light-training sessions with the view of being fully-fit for pre-season training, and with this latest update, it seems as if the former Charlton man could well be in contention for the start of the season.
