Jan Oblak signs a new contract at Atletico

Jan Oblak has signed a new deal at Atletico Madrid.

The news will come as a disappointment to Liverpool as they were hoping to complete a deal for the goalkeeper this summer.

Liverpool was interested in signing the Slovenian shot-stopper after enduring goalkeeping problems throughout the majority of last season.

Oblak’s contract is set to have a 180 million euros release clause.

Oblak joined the Spanish side from Benfica back in 2014 and has managed to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in recent years.

Oblak kept 29 clean sheets in 49 games for Atletico last season where they finished second in La Liga and of course, won the Europa League.

Atletico only conceded 22 goals in 38 league games this season, which shows how much of an important player Oblak is to the club and how influential his signing could have been for Liverpool.
