Klopp confirms Emre Can talks over new contract

One of the biggest question marks for Liverpool this summer is the future of midfielder Emre Can.

The Germany international becomes a free agent at the end of next season when his current contract expires and the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Can this summer.

While both Liverpool and Can’s intentions are to reach an agreement over an extension, it’s easier said than done and there’s a real possibility that the former Bayern Munich youngster could be sold this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

Jurgen Klopp is aware of the situation, and he has revealed that the club are engaged in talks with Can over a new contract.

You can imagine we’re involved in talks and we all feel good and confident in this moment.

That means they’re not the worst talks but until anything is done or signed there’s nothing to say.

Emre is a very important player for us. We don’t want to sell or lose players who are in our first line up or close to it.

Emre is certainly one of them. We want to keep him and we’re having good talks.

Liverpool are fretting over the future of star attacker Philippe Coutinho with Barcelona keeping a watchful eye over the Brazilian especially with Neymar seemingly edging closer to leaving for PSG in a world-record deal.

The Reds want to add to their squad and no major sales are expected to be sanctioned, meaning the likes of Coutinho and Can will stay put by any means necessary.
