The sensible money would probably have been on this result ahead of Saturday. In last season’s bout at Anfield, the teams ground out a 0-0 draw, with little action.
This year’s instalment saw more action than last year, but with the same basic story. Jose Mourinho might be the best manager in the world for setting his team up not to get beaten, and with David De Gea in between the sticks, that task is made all the more easier.
De Gea flashed his left boot at Joel Matip’s first half goal-bound flick, with what must stack up as one of the saves of the season come the end of the season.
United showed astonishingly little going forward for a team looking as good as they have so far this campaign, and Romelu Lukaku’s one-on-one chance was struck straight at Simon Mignolet, who spent most of the remainder of the game twiddling his thumbs.
