Liverpool interested in Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo, according to A Bola.

The young defender has a €60 million release clause in his contract and after watching him in recent weeks, the Reds are keen on bringing Grimaldo to the Premier League, albiet at a much lower cost.

The Spanish U21 international plays primarily as a left full-back, meaning if he is to make the move to Anfield, he will be in direct competition with in-form Andy Robertson, with Alberto Moreno possibly moving on.

It is reported that the Reds may make an offer below his €60 million exit fee in an attempt to understand how much Benfica want the Spaniard to stay.

Grimaldo has been scouted by both Manchester clubs in the past but has never made the move to England. After impressing hugely in Portugal, this could finally be his chance to move to the Premier League.
