Liverpool offer €17m for midfielder Benjamin Andre

Liverpool have made a surprise €17m bid for Rennes midfielder Benjamin Andre as manager Jurgen Klopp looks to add midfield reinforcements before the start of the new season, according to a report from French news outlet Le Telegramme

The Reds are ready to bolster their midfield with Andre and according to the Express, he is Klopp’s preferred replacement for the departed Lucas Leiva.

The news of the bid was first told by Le Telegramme who said that Liverpool had been eyeing up a move for the 26-year-old and are now ready to open official negotiations to sign the player.

Klopp’s main transfer target this summer was Naby Keita, who they failed to sign as his club RB Leipzig refused to sell him no matter what sum of money was offered.

So Klopp has turned his attention to Andre, who is a short-term and cheaper option who will provide cover and support to the Liverpool midfield.

Klopp is also wary that Emre Can only had one more year remaining on his contract and is aware that he may not sign an extension, therefore bringing in Andre would not leave them short in midfield if Can was to leave.

The Reds are hoping that the deal is secured quickly without any problems so Andre can begin working with his new team-mates.
