Liverpool and Manchester United have battled over the signatures of footballers down the years countless times and the pair look set to lock horns again this summer.
According to A Bola (h/t the Manchester Evening News), both clubs are interested in signing Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira after his impressive performances for the Liga NOS side this season.
The 25-year-old has taken a lengthy route to the top of Portugal’s footballing pyramid, starting off his professional career with Estoril before leaving to join Benfica on a free transfer in July 2008.
After two years in the academy at Benfica, failing to make it in the first-team, Pereira left to join Parma on a free transfer and spent loans in Greece and the Netherlands with Aris Saloniki and Roda JC respectively before returning to Portugal with Martimo in the summer of 2013.
Pereira impressed back in his home country and earned himself a move to Porto in 2015, making 77 appearances since his £3.8m move, scoring eight goals.
Both Liverpool and United had scouts present during Porto’s 7-0 win over Nacional this week watching the central midfielder in action as they weigh up a summer transfer for the Euro 2016 winner.
