The Reds’ first Premier League meeting against Swansea saw Brendan Rodgers’ newly promoted side gain a commendable 0-0 draw at Anfield against Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool side in November 2011.
Swansea’s last visit to Anfield, prior to that afternoon, had been an 8-0 battering in an FA Cup 3rd round replay in January 1990.
In the intervening 21 years, Swansea City had suffered relegations, won promotions and moved ground from The Vetch Field to The Liberty Stadium.
Since that move in 2005, Swansea have seen continual improvement on and off the pitch, culminating in promotion to the Premier League in 2011.
Liverpool’s most recent game against The Swans saw Jurgen Klopp’s men lose 3-1 at the Liberty, with a brace of goals from Andre Ayew and one from Jack Cork.
Liverpool’s goal came courtesy of Christian Benteke but, in a game in which Brad Smith was sent off, a much-changed Liverpool side never got going and were deservedly beaten.
Liverpool will be hoping for a much better showing at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The game is an early kick off and the Reds will be hoping to get of to a fast start and build on the momentum their current good run of form has created. A victory will put Liverpool second and send out another message to their rivals that Liverpool are very much in this season’s title race…
