Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva admits he would like to return home to Gremio according to the Liverpool Echo.
Speaking to Radio Atlantica the Brazilian said:
There was an offer from Gremio in January but I wanted to complete 10 years at Liverpool. Now in the window we had a conversation, but nothing official. I do not hide my desire to return to Gremio, but there are several factors.
Lucas joined Liverpool from Gremio in 2007 for £8.5 million, during that time he has made 339 appearances for the club, scoring seven times, including ending a 2,317 day wait for a goal by heading the winner against Plymouth Argyle in this year’s FA Cup.
Lucas, 30, who made 24 Premier League appearances last season, some of them being at centre back, is coming to the end of his current contract with the Merseyside club and may well be heading back home to Brazil.
Jurgen Klopp has shown a desire to hand opportunities to other players in midfield over the veteran and it appears likely that his tenure at Anfield will come to an end this summer.
