After seemingly admitting defeat in their pursuit of RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, Liverpool have gone back to the drawing board in their search for a new midfielder.
The Reds are believed to be ‘crazy’ for Barcelona’s Portugal international Andre Gomes and want to sign him this summer. Given the injury to Adam Lallana and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Emre Can, Liverpool could do with another man in midfield.
TMW have claimed that Liverpool have informed Barcelona that they want Gomes in any deal which sees star man Philippe Coutinho leave the club for the Nou Camp, but Jurgen Klopp and the Reds are adamant that the Brazilian playmaker will not leave this summer. Barcelona are willing to offer Gomes in the deal.

However, they could face some competition for Gomes as Premier League rivals Manchester United have entered the race to sign him after catching wind that the La Liga club are open to selling him, claim the Manchester Evening News.
The 24-year-old arrived at Barcelona last summer in a deal worth a total of €55m from Valencia, with a €35m up-front fee and another €20m in performance-based add-ons.
Gomes started just 17 La Liga games last season despite making 47 appearances in total and for the most part wasn’t particularly impressive in his outings for Barcelona.
Whether Liverpool will move to sign Gomes outright themselves remains to be seen, but Manchester United’s interest will complicate things.
