Subotic alerts Liverpool with intention to leave Dortmund

Liverpool are on high-alert after Neven Subotic announced his intention to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, reports Sky Sports.

In a post on Facebook, the Serbia international said that he wants to leave the club after eight years, but did not disclose details on any potential new clubs.

The 27-year-old has made 192 first-team appearance since joining from Bundesliga rivals Mainz, but has fell down the pecking order under current Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel.

And Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly be interested in the defender, who he managed at both Mainz and Dortmund.

Liverpool have already brought Joel Matip in from Schalke for defensive reinforcements this summer, but a number of faces are also expected to leave Anfield.

Kolo Toure will be leaving Anfield after he was told he would not be offered a new contract, whilst Martin Skrtel is likely to complete a move away after Euro 2016.

The future of Mamadou Sakho also remains unknown after the French defender failed a drugs test towards the end of the season, and Joe Gomez is still recovering from a long-term knee injury.

Given the transfer history of both, a second reunion on Merseyside wouldn’t be surprising, but time will tell as to whether Klopp thinks he could offer Subotic the first-team football that he desires.
