Bordeaux 1-1 Liverpool – Player Ratings

Simon Mignolet – 7

Think Mignolet actually played really well. He dealt with crosses well (and there were many), his distribution, though, again not fantastic. But a solid performance from the Belgian.

Emre Can – 5

Not Can’s greatest game, it has to be said. I’m one of his biggest fans, but he didn’t look at the races today. In fairness, he was forced back from midfield into defence following an injury to Kolo Toure.

Distribution wasn’t amazing, but then again – not too many options for the German. He was solid in the air, though – an area I’ve been critical about him in the past.

Joe Gomez – 6

Not great for the equaliser, but solid all game. I’m perhaps wrong, but I doubt he’s played too much in a back three for Charlton and I imagine it takes a while to adapt to.

Mamadou Sakho – 7

Sakho was the surprise captain and I thought he put in an inspired performance for Liverpool. Defending was very good and he dealt with pretty much everything that was aimed in his direction. Put a real claim in for a place in Sunday’s side.

Jordon Ibe – 4

I am really fond of Ibe, but he was poor today. His decision-making was especially poor. Should have passed it earlier most of the time, or sometimes cut inside instead of onto your right. He’s got the talent, perhaps not the confidence.

Jordan Rossiter – 7

I’d say our best player. First-half, especially. Did the basics very well and looked very composed for an 18-year-old kid playing a tough away game in Europe for the first time. Not the quickest and looked a little tired before he came off towards the end, but very impressive from the young Liverpudlian.

Pedro Chirivella – 5 (On for Toure, 28′)

Thought he did alright. A few stray passes perhaps lowered his rating but his defensive performance was good and it was tough for him to come on in a midfield two with another inexperienced player. Potential, though, and games like this will do the Spaniard the world of good.

Alberto Moreno – 6

Very impressive defensively from Moreno – an area he’s often criticised for. Presses well and is often an option on the break, but his end product certainly needs improving in order to push on his progression.

Philippe Coutinho – 6

Didn’t get involved too much. That’s probably why we didn’t create a lot. Had a great effort in the first-half that cannoned back off the post. Him and Lallana linked up well at times.

Adam Lallana – 6

Lallana scored a great goal. Really, really good. His second-half display was undoubtedly better than the opening half. The first-half display was very frustrating and I was hoping Firmino would come on. Gradual improvement and very happy he scored his goal. Hopefully, he can kick on.

Divock Origi – 5

Needs someone up there with him. Looked isolated. Made some decent runs, but comes deep far too often. Needs to run in behind more with his blistering pace. Rodgers should be drilling this into the youngster’s head.

Kolo Toure, 5 – Booked before going off early.

Danny Ings, 6 – Lovely touch almost set up a second for the Reds.

Cameron Brannagan, N/A – Came on too late to make an impact.
