Liverpool once again left it late but got the job done when they defeated Monterrey 2-1 in Doha to reach the final of the Club World Cup.
Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino scored the goals for the Reds, the latter netting in the 92nd minute.
After an open start to the game, the European champions took the lead in the 11th minute, when Mohamed Salah threaded in a lovely pass for Keita to run in behind the defence and score.
Monterrey immediately responded with a goal from Funes-Mori. Liverpool had switched off in the second phase of a set-piece to allow that goal in.
Thereafter, the Mexican did have a couple of good chances to take the lead, but Alisson was there to thwart those efforts.
Just when we thought the game was crawling towards extra-time, Salah did some good work near the byline before Trent Alexander-Arnold curled a fantastic pass for Firmino to score in stoppage time.
All in all, it was a laboured performance from Liverpool, but they won’t care one bit as the final of Club World Cup awaits on Saturday.
