Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has claimed that Joe Gomez is one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs, despite being a relative novice in the league.
Gomez has featured in all eight league games for Liverpool this season and has also shown versatility by filling in at right-back during the last outing against Manchester City.
The Liverpool number 66 finds it amazing how Gomez has managed to hold down his position at his age despite the setbacks that he has had.
He’s showing this season he is a top player. At a young age, he’s one of the best in his position in the league. That takes some doing, so that’s credit to him especially with the set-backs he has had.
Alexander-Arnold also told the club’s website that the partnership that Gomez has forged with team-mate Virgil Van Dijk is unrivalled with Alexander-Arnold saying that Gomez is like a ‘mini-Virgil’.
The relationship he has forged with Virgil has really helped him. He probably looks up to Virgil as a bit of a role model. It’s like he’s a mini-Virgil at times!
It’s hard to argue with the 20-year old as Liverpool have the joint-best defensive record in the league along with title rivals City.

This comes after all the talk last season about how frightening their attack was but also how vulnerable the defence looked.
With Dejan Lovren returning from injury against Manchester City, Gomez now has competition for his centre-back spot alongside Van Dijk and will be doing all he can to show Jurgen Klopp what he is capable of.
After a tough run of fixtures, the Reds now have a kinder run of games coming up and they will be hoping to keep the pressure on title rivals City and Chelsea, who are locked on 20 points with Liverpool
