Italian legend Andrea Pirlo has named the five teams who he believes have the best chance of winning the Champions League in Madrid next year and he’s named Liverpool amongst them.
The Italian has backed his former club Juventus to win their third European cup but he says that the Reds will be a serious contender.
As reported by Calcio Mercato, Pirlo said:
If you play those four or five teams, including Juventus, then there are Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich. The teams are more or less those. The teams are more or less those. While the championship is a thing in itself, Juventus has shown and is proving to be a step or two steps above the others.
Pirlo, who lost the 2005 Champions League final to Liverpool, clearly thinks that Juventus will win the competition, but he’s named the Reds amongst some elite company.
Liverpool take on Red Star Belgrade next week and will be hoping to put themselves on nine points from a possible 12 in their group. If they win and Paris Saint Germain lose to Napoli in Naples, the Reds will likely need just one point from their final two games to secure qualification into the knockout stages.
