Anfield atmosphere will inspire me, says Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski says the famous Anfield atmosphere can get the best out of him.

Lewandowski’s Bayern Munich side take on Liverpool on Tuesday night, as the two European heavyweights meet in the Champions League last-16 first leg.

It promises to be a spectacular night at Anfield – a stadium renowned for being a hostile place for visiting European clubs.

While many players have shrunk in a cauldron of noise in the past, Lewandowski believes it can do the opposite to him.

Speaking to UEFA.com, the striker said playing in front of such an atmosphere has the potential to inspire him to his best form:

I know that their fans don’t want us or me to score a goal or win, but for me personally, in such an atmosphere I’m even more energised at the blow of the whistle for kick-off.

That’s what makes it special for me and I’m excited to play in such a stadium. And if you win, it’s even better.

Lewandowski will fancy his chances of causing the Reds problems on Tuesday, with Jurgen Klopp likely to field a makeshift centre-back pairing.

It appears as though Fabinho will have to drop in alongside Joel Matip, with Virgil van Dijk suspended and both Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren injured.
