Arsenal legend Merson tips Reds to ‘tear Gunners to shreds’

Paul Merson is not convinced with Arsenal’s recent run of form.

Despite winning their last ten games, the former Gunner is pessimistic about the club’s ability to beat teams of a similar standard.

Dropping their first two games of the season to Manchester City and Chelsea, Unai Emery’s side have largely met lesser opposition since their tricky curtain-raisers.

With a clash against Liverpool looming next weekend, fans are likely to get a look at how this resurgent Arsenal team will fare against a first-rate Premier League outfit.

Merson thinks they might be in trouble.

Quoted by Goal, the pundit said:

They’ve done well to win 10 games on the trot, don’t get me wrong.

But when they come up against Tottenham and Liverpool, and especially Liverpool at the Emirates, I would be shocked if Liverpool didn’t win by three clear goals.

They will rip Arsenal to shreds.

I’m scratching my head, because Arsenal have won 10 games in a row and in half of those games they could have been behind by so many in the first half.

A hugely impressive 3-1 victory against Leicester City on Monday night showed Arsenal at their imperious best, with Mesut Özil conducting the orchestra.

Incendiary comments from Merson then, and Liverpool will be out to prove him right next weekend.
