Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi has spoken out about his failure to obtain a work permit.
The youngster has been at the club since arriving in the academy in 2015 following his exploits in Nigeria but has yet to feature for them as a consequence of work permit issues.
Speaking to BBC Sport, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Awoniyi expressed his disappointment regarding his current situation. He said:
It saddens my heart that it’s been difficult to get a work permit for the past four years.
At the end of the season we have to go back to Liverpool to discuss. Everyone knows the importance of the work permit and how it works, and that you’d need to play for your national team.

If you don’t get a chance with your national team then it becomes difficult to get it. Personally, I chose Liverpool because I would love to play in the English Premier League for Liverpool.
If God says it will happen then it will, but if not then I can only go on with my life and career.
The forward has been in fine form this season during his fifth loan spell since joining Liverpool. He’s led the line for Belgian club Mouscron and has scored seven times since January.
Bundesliga side Schalke, as per the report from The Liverpool Echo, are keen to land Awoniyi this summer, with his future at Liverpool uncertain because of his issues with obtaining a work permit.
It is claimed that the Reds would consider letting the 21-year-old depart for a fee worth around £12 million.
