Mario Balotelli, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool, has told Brendan Rodgers that he intends to stay and fight for his place in the starting line-up and prove himself. Balotelli hasn’t been in the line-up recently, as Raheem Sterling has been used as a makeshift striker. The Italian is yet to open his account in the Premier League in his brief spell on Merseyside.
Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert have both been in the side recently instead of Liverpool’s number 45. So it wouldn’t be a shock if Balotelli was to leave Merseyside, but according to The Times and The Liverpool Echo, he wants to stay put and earn his place.
Balotelli’s suitability to Liverpool’s quick-pressing system has been questioned by many and even manager, Brendan Rodgers, has in recent weeks, too. However, Rodgers denied all speculation that Balotelli was on his way out of Anfield and said that he wants to help the Italian striker’s development.
Rodgers on Balotelli’s mindset at the moment:
“He does (want to fight for his place). I think that’s the case with him. He does care about doing well for Liverpool and you will get your rewards for that. We’ve seen that over the last two and a half years.”
Balotelli may feature against Aston Villa on Saturday and will be looking to prove a point.
