‘Embarrassing’ – Gary Neville tears into Liverpool player after Arsenal defeat

Liverpool suffered their second Premier League defeat under Andoni Iraola as they were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Anfield.

An early goal from Kai Havertz proved to be the decisive one as the Reds failed to get a shot on target at Anfield for the first time in Premier League history.

To be honest, they gave it everything and showed a lot of urgency in attack, but the Gunners produced a defensive masterclass away from home to secure the points.

There were a few talking points from the game, but Gary Neville has singled out Alexis Mac Allister for criticism for his antics in the second half.

Late in the game, when Liverpool were chasing the equaliser, things got a bit heated between the two camps as a scuffle followed.

In the heat of the action, Mac Allister and Noni Madueke were seen arguing, and both their heads made contact.

The Argentine immediately went down, alleging a headbutt, in the hope that the referee would send Madueke off.

And Neville described Mac Allister’s antics as ’embarrassing,’ after which he credited VAR for not falling for his theatrics.

“Well done to VAR because they’ve recognised that Mac Allister going down is embarrassing,” said Neville via Sky Sports. “He said that, but in a posher way.”

We can’t blame Neville for his verdict as that was nowhere close to being a headbutt…
