Liverpool could come up short in their pursuit of Ajax central defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The Reds were linked with the youngster after a series of astonishing performances in both the Eredivisie and Champions League, and the idea of pairing the 19-year-old with his Dutch teammate Virgil van Dijk seemed almost too good to be true.
Sadly, it might be just that.

Quoted by the Daily Mirror, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said:
There will be time to speak about him [De Ligt]. Each year the club has an interest in making signings and this summer will be the same,
De Ligt, like the other best players, is on the table.
He is a great player and a great centre-back. I know what will happen with him but it’s not the moment [to talk].
De Ligt would be following Ajax and Netherlands teammate to the Nou Camp, and if Bartomeu is to be believed – it might already be a done deal.
