Barcelona could agree deal for Gini Wijnaldum in January

Gini Wijnaldum could seal a move to Barcelona in January, according to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness].

The 30-year-old was continually linked with a move to the Nou Camp in the summer, teaming up with former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman in the process.

Wijnaldum ended up staying put at Liverpool, however, but he is yet to sign a new deal. His current contract expires at the end of this season.

This new report claims that Barca are now available to move for Wijnaldum in January, after a clause stating they couldn’t buy a Reds player after Philippe Coutinho for a certain period of time ended.

The ball appears to be in Wijnaldum’s court, although it is also stated that Barca must decide whether or not the midfielder is a priority signing, and if they should wait to sign him for free in the summer.

In recent weeks, Wijnaldum has shown what a vital player he is for Liverpool, not only performing excellently in the middle of the park, but also staying fit.

While many around him have found them themselves on the treatment table, the Dutchman has been priceless for Jurgen Klopp.

In an ideal world, I would still like to see Wijnaldum extend his stay at Liverpool, but it looks increasingly as though a new challenge appeals to him. Selling him in January is out of the question, though.

He may only be properly valued when he leaves, with his understated quality so key to the Reds’ success under Klopp.
