Since leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid last year, it’s safe to say Trent Alexander-Arnold’s career hasn’t gone as planned.
The Scouser ruined his relationship with the Anfield faithful with the manner of his departure last summer, although the club did give him a nice farewell.
On the pitch, he has struggled with injuries since moving to Spain, while this season, he is essentially Jose Mourinho’s third-choice right-back behind Denzel Dumfries and Fede Valverde.
There have been suggestions that Alexander-Arnold could return to Liverpool in a move that will surely divide the Anfield faithful.
However, Fabrizio Romano has emphatically played down those suggestions.
No talks between Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold
“Let me clarify. Links between Trent and Liverpool for a potential comeback are completely off the mark,” said Romano via his YouTube channel.
“Liverpool never started any kind of concrete or serious conversation to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold back to the club. First point.
“Second point in general about Alexander-Arnold returning to the Premier League or leaving Real Madrid in any case, that’s not something that Trent is planning for the January transfer window, or Real Madrid.
“At the moment, Trent and Real Madrid plan to continue together at least until the end of the season and, in reality, the feeling from both sides is that they want to continue together for the long term.
“When Trent decided to leave Liverpool and come to Real Madrid, it was a big decision; we know how much consequence it had in terms of impact in England.
“But Trent is convinced about Real Madrid and Real Madrid are convinced about Trent. It’s going to take some time; last season was not so lucky.
“This season, obviously Fede [Valverde] is doing very well, but Trent played today against Racing Santander and did very well.”
This is a really tricky one for the club and the fans. We’re not sure who ‘Trent’ is, but the young Scouser who went by Alexander-Arnold and wore No.66 is the most talented right-back to have played for Liverpool.
No one can blame him for wanting to take on a new challenge in his career, but it looked like he had been planning his departure for a while and essentially walked out on his boyhood club on a free transfer.
There are no talks of a potential return, but even if that were to be the case in the future, Alexander-Arnold will have his work cut out to endear himself to the Anfield faithful once again.
