Bruno Fernandes says he wants to play in England

Bruno Fernandes has been linked with moves to both Liverpool and Manchester United this summer and when asked about the possibility of a move to the Premier League, the Portuguese star admitted that he would like to move to England.

As reported by Sky Sports News, Fernandes was asked about his future as he travelled with the rest of the Sporting squad to New York, where they’ll face Liverpool in a friendly game on Wednesday evening and he gave a clear indication that he wants to move to the Premier League.

He said:

I don’t care about the market, I’ve talked about this many times. The only thing I can do now is that I need to catch the plane so I don’t miss it. Will this be the last match for Sporting? I don’t know, it’s the coach who decides.I told I’d like to play in England, but I don’t care about it right now. If it could be this season? It could be when the club decides, I’m not in charge.

Fernandes’ contract with Sporting is an interesting one as it does contain a release clause of sorts, but not one that can guarantee him a transfer. He has four years remaining on a contract that contains a clause which states that if a club makes an offer of £31m for his services and Sporting reject it, then the Portuguese side must pay the player £4.5m.

However, it seems like Sporting are more than willing to make that payment as they think they can get a fee in excess of £60m for the 24-year-old, so it makes perfect sense for them to pay the player and then make the money back via a larger transfer fee.
