Liverpool midfielder Emre Can says he moved to Anfield not just to play regular first team football, but to win major honours.
The German turned out 40 times for the Reds in his first season in England following his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
It was a season without a trophy for Brendan Rodgers’ side as they crashed out of Europe early, slumped to sixth in the league and narrowly missed out on two domestic cup finals.
Can is set to represent Germany in the European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic.
Ahead of his country’s game against Serbia on Wednesday, the 21-year-old spoke of his eagerness to earn some silverware at Liverpool.
“I didn’t just come to Liverpool to play football,” he said, as quoted on Liverpoolfc.com.
“I want to win trophies. Therefore, I want to win one first with the Under-21 team.”
Can could line up against some familar faces should Germany and England make it to the knockout rounds and come head-to-head.
The versatile youngster is aware of the threat that England forwards Harry Kane, Saido Berahino and soon-t0-be teammate Danny Ings pose.
“It’s very good, what I’ve experienced in Liverpool,” he added.
“The work with youth players in England is very good. England Under-21s have a really good team too and are favourites. Therefore I hope they don’t play us.”
