Caoimhin Kelleher returns from injury in Blackburn friendly

When Caoimhin Kelleher injured his knee during Liverpool U23s’ 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town back in February, he was expected to sit out the rest of the season.

However, the delay in action after the global pandemic means that the Irishman is now back fit and as such, he was able to take part in Liverpool’s 6-0 friendly win against Blackburn Rovers on Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old replaced Alisson Becker in the game at Anfield as the Reds continued their preparations for the restart of the Premier League season.

With regular backup goalkeeper Adrian still out with his own injury worries, there is now a chance that Kelleher could find himself on the bench for next Sunday’s Merseyside Derby.

Also, if Liverpool are able to clinch the league title in the next few weeks, he could even find himself starting a few league games at the end of the season if Jurgen Klopp wants to give him more game time to help with his development.
