Ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher believes that Phillipe Coutinho should make a return to Anfield if they are to compete with rivals Manchester City next season.
Since the Brazilian left Liverpool in 2018 to join the La Liga giants, he has failed to live up to the form he displayed while playing at Anfield, raising eyebrows about the huge price tag.
Barcelona are willing to cut their losses and take offers for the 26-year-old with a number of clubs interested, including PSG and Chelsea, with the latter on the lookout for an Eden Hazard replacement.
While only scoring five goals in his 34 league appearances this season, Liverpool fans are welcoming the idea of an Anfield return for Coutinho despite his below average performances in Spain.

Jamie Carragher is one of those fans, urging Jurgen Klopp to re-sign the winger if the price is right.
Speaking with the Liverpool Echo, via the Mirror, the ex-Red said:
I wouldn’t say I would be actively going to get him, but if there was a possibility of bringing Coutinho back for decent money, and Barca wanted to cut their losses a little bit because it hasn’t worked out, then I’d do that.
We lack that player in the squad. We have it in Lallana and Shaqiri, but this is a different level of player.

Liverpool recently lost out of their first Premier League title by finishing one point behind Manchester City. The pundit also believes that Liverpool’s midfield selection is the thing Liverpool lack to compare to their recent title chase rivals:
It’s the one thing Man City have on us, they have Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne. We don’t have that type of player.
We have great midfield players who are all very similar. We could add something a little bit different. But that would only really be if it was a good price for us.
Coutinho featured in both legs against Liverpool in their semi-final clash with the Spanish club, however, was ejected early in both games around the hour mark.
