On this day (19th May) in 2013, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher retired from professional football.
The boy from Bootle made 737 appearances during his Liverpool career, scoring 5 goals along the way.
During his time at the club, Carragher made himself a household name and helped the Reds to win a number of honours.
The most famed of those likely being the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan in Istanbul.
Despite suffering cramp towards the end of the second half, Carragher battled on to help the Reds win on penalties.
Anfield Watch tweeted some great highlights from the defender’s career on Twitter to celebrate the eight years since…
As you can see, and probably remember, Carragher was never afraid to get stuck in the mix.
A compilation of crunching challenges can easily be made from the 43-year-olds career.
One of the more impressive aspects of Carragher’s career is his assists and goals tally.
Despite being one of the more ‘old school’ defenders, Carragher still managed to make an impact up top at times.
Many fans will remember the incredible moment during his last game for the club against QPR back in 2013.
Carragher found himself in the perfect position and the perfect distance to take a shot.
In spite of him connecting perfectly with the ball in what was likely the best shot of his career, Carragher hit the post.
It feels like it was just yesterday that Carragher was turning out for the Reds.
It is safe to say a player with his passion and desire will always be wanted at the club.
