According to reports from media outlets such as The Daily Mirror and The Daily Star, Liverpool are in the hunt for Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech. The Czech ‘keeper, who has recently fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois, will have plenty of suitors in this January window. Liverpool, supposedly, one of them.
Liverpool have a serious goalkeeping issue as it stands. Simon Mignolet has been dropped recently after some terrible performances between the sticks. Brad Jones has replaced him, but has failed to impress and has picked up an injury.
Cech would be a tremendous purchase for Liverpool. A proven goalkeeper at the top-level, experienced and still has plenty of years left in him at 32 years of age.
Jose Mourinho, however, may not sell to his ‘rivals’, Liverpool. With the departure of Mark Schwarzer to Leicester City, it is even more unlikely that Cech will be allowed to go. However, Cech’s agent has admitted that a summer move away from Stamford Bridge is possible. Cech’s agent has also been in the media telling Liverpool and Arsenal to bid for the 32 year-old. Viktor Kolar (Cech’s agent): “Liverpool need to strengthen their position in goal and they know Petr will become available in the summer.” This sounds like a summer move, if any, is more likely.
Cech would be a fantastic signing if Liverpool could pull it off. A major upgrade on the goalkeepers they have at their disposal now, definitely.
